Chapter Three

Naoko and Minami sat down next to each other as they waited for the plane to take off. They were flying first-class to Japan. When Minami had asked who was paying for it, the younger girl merely grinned. She would not tell him, but it was not important anyway. What he really wanted to know was how Arielle’s descendent had ended up so far from her native country.

“Naoko… how did you end up here? Isn’t Sukina your sister?” he asked her as soon as they were safely in the air and the seatbelt sign had been turned off.

Naoko put down one of her favourite fiction paperbacks and tilted her head a little to a side. She put a finger square on her chin, reminding him so much of someone that he quickly turned away to hide the tears.

“Hmmm… It’s not that big a secret. Sukina and I are not quite normal sisters. Someone once said that we were KS sisters, sisters from a past life. You see, on our hands are these blue threads. Chinese believe that red threads denote marriage between a couple. The thread is supposed to be around their ankles though. Someone once told me that the position of the thread matters as it shows the length these people have been connected. Sukina and me are at the wrists, so some people say that that means we have been sisters for over 1000 years. They have yet to find anyone with an older connection,” Naoko replied.

“Uh… You didn’t answer my question, Naoko,” he pointed out.

“Well, all I know is that my mother was an assassin who travelled far and wide for her assignments. Apparently she had a friend who was a double for her in my home country. She left me with her when she found out that she did not have much time left. My father was the one who arranged that Sukina and me to be separated. It was to have been for our own safety,” Naoko said.

“But why did your ancestor leave Japan?” he insisted.

“How did you know whether my ancestors were Japanese?” Naoko looked at him sharply.

“Your mannerisms. There are some things that make you stand out as different from the others,” he said lamely, but she appeared to accept his answer.

“I never knew my real parents, nor any of my other family members. My foster family told me nothing. I only found out about it by accident, and even then it was a close fluke. Sukina and the Jewels helped me a lot when I was first beginning. Now stop disturbing me and let me read,” Naoko said, ending all conversation.

He watched her as she slept. Her hair fell softly against her face, giving her a wanton kind of look. She looked peaceful and like the ancestor he had known.

Filler One

He got up from the bed, stretched and then stood, his feet slightly apart. He was naked from waist up. His red hair was barely tousled. Though it was still early, he felt well rested from getting an early night before. A moment later as he did his morning exercises, his green eyes caught sight of two photos on the mantle.

The two young girls in the first photo were no older than nine and ten respectively. One of them had deep auburn hair, nearly black. Her eyes were also the same colour, and her skin was a golden brown. Her arms were around the younger girl’s shoulder, holding her protectively. In fact, her expression was one of fierce warning.

The younger girl had golden blond hair. Three small plaits fell above each ear, framing her face. Sapphire blue eyes gazed at the camera with a look of serious purpose. Her lips were slightly apart. She did not seem to mind being held by the older girl, but rather was intent on fulfilling her purpose.

Both girls wore kimonos, with one bearing the pattern of sakura flowers and the other of bamboo. Next to them, the same girls were depicted wearing Western-style clothing, with the elder girl now behind the younger, her arms in front of the girl from the shoulders. The only difference was the younger girl’s plaits had been pulled back.

There was nothing wrong with the two pictures, except that the first picture had been taken at the beginning of the last century. It was old and faded. The younger was far newer, and had been taken about nine years ago.

He stopped his exercises and went to the photos. Koenma had given him the second photo, unaware that he had the first. It was to have been a guide to Naoko. Naoko was of course, much older, with her hair tinted naturally with red interspersed deep brown. Her skin was now a healthy copper, and her lips were a pale red.

“Arielle… I found her at last,” he whispered to the first photo.

Chapter 2- Racing with Minami

The young brunette found herself at the racing track on a hot Saturday afternoon. As she made her way towards the track, the temperature was easily at least 55° Celsius. She wore a simple sleeveless tee, a short pleated skirt and a pair of suspenders. The invitation she received had implied she was driving today. The day was not suitable for wearing anything with sleeves.

“Hello, you must Naoko,” a friendly young man greeted her. “My name is Minami, and I’ll be your judge today,” he continued.

“Nice to meet you, Minami. Thanks for bringing over my car. How’s she doing?” she replied, shaking his hand with a firm grip before turning to the mechanic.

“She’ll run extremely well. This car has been kept in excellent condition. The latest Ferrari engine, lightweight body, excellent braking and suspension… she deserves to be a race car!” the mechanic turned from where he was checking her engine.

“I thought this was the ’97 Carrera,” Minami said.

“The body and paintwork are, but nothing else. If you look in the interior, it’s been made over so that the car is as light as possible. Suspension and braking have been tuned to such a degree that she’ll stop on a dime. Her engines guarantee a top speed of at least 300 kph, and her tires will wok well over both smooth and rough roads. I don’t know who was the engineer, but you have to give him credit. Your gearbox is excellent, and there won’t be a single sound when you drive her,” he admired.

“That’s what I paid the engineer for. He came highly recommended, and my friend was able to persuade him to come out of retirement to design this car for me,” she said.

“Well, she’s all ready to go now. Just start her up,” the mechanic said, handing her the key.

Minami and her got into the car, and she started up the car. She started smoothly, and they raced out of the pit without a sound. Soon they were cruising quite happily at about 200 kph. When they were about halfway through the track, Minami began to speak.

“Koenma sent me,” he said.

“I know,” she replied, easily negotiating a sharp turn.

“He’s contacted your sister, Sukina, for a undercover job. He thinks that it’ll work better if you were with her,” Minami said.

“My sister works better alone.”

“Not this time. I assume you’ve heard of Voldemort?” he asked.

“Quite. I know of his reputation. Koenma wants someone to go and teach there because he suspects that there is an agent there who wants to kill Harry Potter and to recruit those for his cause. There have been rumours of Makai demons being who have met with him. If I’m not wrong, if he manages to persuade even one A-class demon we would be in serious trouble,” she answered.

“Was there a reason I was sent here? You seem to know what I was supposed to tell and offer you,” he said.

“Tell Koenma I said yes. This is interesting, if nothing else. I am not going to let some bigot, bigheaded idiot ruin the peace between Makai and Ninjenkai,” she substituted the ‘j’ with a ‘y.’

“How long did you…” Minami began when she answered.

“A month, but I have been watching anime,” she grinned sheepishly.

"That would answer it. Not that many people know the proper way to pronounce the word," he grinned.

Chapter One- Intro to some animes

The blond young girl was combing her hair in her room when she heard footsteps on the stairs. Turning, she placed her brush on the vanity and watched as her room door slid open.

“What is it, Aniki?” she asked her stepbrother (‘aniki’- elder brother in Japanese).

“This just came for you, from an owl, no less,” he said, no surprise on his face.

Taking the letter from him, she found a note written in cursive by an unfamiliar hand. She opened it. The letter was from one of the agents assigned to track happenings and events in the Wizarding world. She got more and more puzzled as she read the letter, as the correspondent was not one of her own agents, but from the Intelligence branch of the Alin’sa. That was under her sister’s domain.

“A letter from the Jewels?” her brother referred to the training arm of the Alin’sa.

“No. This is from the Intelligence section,” she said.

Looking up she could see that her brother was puzzled. He only knew her as a member of the Jewels, but not as anything else. She was getting tired of seeing that look, and because she knew she could trust him, she decided to tell him everything.

“Sit down, Aniki. I’ll need to explain to you,” she said, sitting cross-legged on the floor.

“You don’t want me to interfere or keep an eye on you, do you?” he replied wryly, sitting across from her. She smiled, the very sun in her face.

“No. How much do you know about the Jewels?” she asked him.

“The Jewels are a mercenary outfit. You inherited it from your mother. The Jewels are only open to those descended from Jewels or related to the Jewels. The main members are all female. Men are used as information sources, but the real work is carried out by the girls. To quote your elder sister, you guys are a matriarchal society in the miniature,” he said.

“Onee-san does have a way with words, doesn’t she?” she laughed.

“She’s right, but that’s not all. The Jewels are the training arm of the Alin’sa. The Alin’sa is a Priesthood. We serve the Greek Goddess of Death, Celeste,” she said.

Since her brother did not know much about Greek mythology, she left out the fact that most historians had pinned Thanatos as the Greek God of Death, and Keres as the Goddesses of Violent Death.

“Okaa-san was the Miakan of the Alin’sa. She was the Head Priestess of Celeste. I inherited that position, but it doesn’t mean that I believe in her as a Goddess. Onee-chan is the Rikan of the Alin’sa. She’s my second-in-command. Onee-chan is in charge of Intelligence and Training. I’m generally involved with administration. The Alin’sa is composed of several different branches, each of them associated with one particular activity. This letter should have gone to Onee-chan, not me. I wonder if Koenma…” she began when her brother interrupted her.

“Botan came by earlier. She said that Koenma wanted to see you but as you were sleeping I told her that I’d end you later,” her brother said.

“Where?” she asked.

“Cat’s Eye CafĂ©. Apparently it’s doing well, and Koenma suggested it so there would be less chance of being overheard,” he said.

“I’ll take a bath before I leave then,” she said, getting up.

“I’ll send you,” he went downstairs.

“Kureei-ani, we’re not taking the car!” she said as she grabbed a towel and headed towards the bath.

Intro

I like reading Harry Potter and other fantasy novels, and I also like to write. I generally write original stories, but a friend of mine once told me that I had great talent for writing fanfiction. This is by no means my first HP crossover fic, but it’s the first that I’m uploading into this blog. I generally post them on writing.com. However, my co-author and I are currently writing different directions of the story, so hers is on the site and mine is here. This takes place after the Order of the Phoenix.

By the way, the adds for our stories are:
Writing.com/author/druidess (Hers is the Great Journey)
Writing.com/authors/priestess (Mine is Darkness)

Please R&R!

Now, onto the story!!
